Brian Bowman-Artist and Educator for Redken

Last week I had the opportunity to see Brian Bowman teach.  He is an artist and educator for Redken who was destined to be a hairstylist.  His mother was a Wigmaker for Disney and his father was a Chemist for Estee Lauder. 

The two outstanding things that I took away from this class:  invisible layers and a five minute graduated bob cut. 

Invisible Layers
Start at the back of the head.  Take a vertical section leaving out the perimeter and pull to a 45 degree angle.  If the client wants more volume, start cutting closer to the mid-shaft.  Cutting under the section, lightly pinch your shears as you move up the section while directing the hair towards the front of the head. When you reach the ends, slide the hair you cut down towards the head.  Continue this process until you have reached the top of your section.  Voila!
